Project type

Sophomore Studio

Date

May 2023

Role

Solo Studio Project

The design of the plaza prioritizes providing a diverse set of experiences that lend themselves to being used creatively. To achieve this the plaza is designed along a spectrum, transitioning form the the elevational rhythm of Ludlow street, to the opened curves of the new library. The Library maintains the existing thoroughfare on the site, while providing sperate access to the cafe, theater, and library. Divided by floors, the library holds maker an performance spaces on the lower level. Public facing uses such as the lobby, offices, and cafe are placed on the Howle street level. Gathering spaces and thoroughfare are placed on level with with plaza. Above this, the third floor stores the library's collection, with quiet reading spaces placed on the fourth floor. This organization allows for quiet and loud spaces to be adequately separated, while keeping the most popular amenities the most accessible.
